I love a good dessert. This simple recipe for apple pie taquitos is one of my favorite desserts. This dessert is versatile in the fact it can be made sweet to soothe our sweet tooth, or tart to give us that tingly feeling deep in our jaws. The secret to sweetness or tartness is in the apples. This is an easy, affordable, and quick recipe to make at home.

Apple Pie Taquitos
I have to admit that I always grow or buy too many apples. I just can’t help it. If a store has them on sale, I’m going to buy them. If I go to a farmers market, I’m going to buy them. If I’m craving a healthy treat, I’m going to buy them.
And then what happens is I have a ton of apples sitting on the counter and I’m constantly worried that they’re going to go to waste. This is where this simple taquito recipe comes into play. I can easily whip up a sweet (or tangy) treat with minimal effort and ingredients.
I also love changing up the flavor and taste of this recipe simply by changing out the type of apples that I use. It’s really that simple to make a totally popular dessert taste different every time it’s made.
Ingredients needed to make Apple Pie Taquitos
2 Medium/Large apples of choice (peeled and cubed). I used Honey Crisp but Braeburn, Cortland, Granny Smith, Jonagold, and McIntosh all work well.
So first you want a medium to a large frying pan, then add the cubed apples (about ½ inch cubes), maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
You need to cook over medium/high heat until the apples begin to soften (about 10 minutes).
Then add enough water (1/2-1 cup) to keep the mixture runny and to create a syrup consistency.
Now add in the corn starch and the remainder of the water.
Then reduce the heat to medium/low and stir often until apples are soft and the consistency is like syrup surrounding the chunks of apples (about 5 minutes).
At this point, you may have to add more water as the corn starch will create a thick consistency.
Add 1-2 tablespoons at a time if the mixture becomes too thick.
Now the fun begins with taking about a ¼ cup of apple mixture (depending on the size of your wraps) and place in a neat row at the center of a wrap.
Fold one end over the center and “tuck” it in under the apple mixture, continue to roll it until the wrap is finished and resting on top of the fold. Lightly butter the top surface and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Now you get to use your air fryer and bake in the fryer for 5-8 minutes or until the top portion is golden brown at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
You will want to let the taquito’s cool briefly and serve warm. You can also sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the taquito. This step is entirely optional.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
What if the apple pie mixture is too thick or thin?
If the mixture is too thick then add a tablespoon or two of water at a time until the mixture becomes the right consistency. I recommend doing this at a slow pace so you don’t make it too thin for your liking. If the mixture is too thin, add in cornstarch a tablespoon or two at a time until the mixture thickens to your desire.
Can I use sugar instead of maple syrup?
Yes, either works well and brown sugar is a good option also. It’s up to you and what type of sweetness you prefer. You can also use pyure which is another favorite here.
Can I bake them in the oven instead of air-frying?
Absolutely. You just place them in a baking dish lined with parchment paper and cook on 350 for 15-30 minutes or until golden brown on the surface.
I’ve actually cooked them both ways and I love both methods. I find that the air fryer gets them a tad bit more crispy on the ends which is always a nice treat.
How do you reheat taquitos?
The easiest way to reheat a taquito is to warm it up slowly in the oven or pop it into the microwave for a quick heat up. Just be careful that you don’t overheat as it will make the wrap potentially hard. You also can use your air fryer again briefly to warm them up.
Once you have the taquito nice and warm, you can enjoy it as is or top it with some of your favorite toppings. A scoop of ice cream is always a great idea as is whipped cream.
I’ve even drizzled honey and hot fudge over these and took the flavor over the top! Don’t forget you can use ice cream too!
Let me know what type of toppings you add to this apple pie taquito recipe so I can try it your way next time!

One of my favorite memories as a child was eating corn on the cob. The juice from the corn would fly in every direction with each bite. I would spend the next few hours picking corn out of my teeth. Ah, yes, the spoils of war. It was a sacrifice, but a necessary one. LOL!…
