Modest Mondays….Dressy and Casual and Sermon Notes :)
This morning was pretty chilly here in Washington! Sunday school and church were great this morning. Service was so good, it was one of those where you just want to SHOUT amen!!!
We were discussing the name of Jesus and WOW it just was so good!
We were reading from John 1:1-18. Here are some notes I took and notes that the Pastor gave us.
Throughout Bible times, people’s names carried great significance and meaning. The name Jesus is the Greek form of the Hebrew Yeshua and means Yahweh saves. Today Joshua is similar. You can read more on this in Matthew 1:20-21, Acts 2:21, Romans, 10:13, Acts 10:43, and Acts 4:12.
In verses 1-3 and verse 18 it clearly expresses the deity of Jesus ( who he is and what he came to do) and everything in between. it also provides a brief description of the earthly work and ministry of Jesus.
There is one other indirect expression of the deity of Jesus in verse 12. it says He gave us HIS power to become the sons of God….this is so powerful to me! He gave us the right to become children of God, Only HE can do this!!!
In verse 1 it starts out with In the beginning, which means in timeless eternity past. It goes on to say the Word was with God and the Word was God- this is a reference to the trinity. The reality of who God is. Jesus is the intimate relationship of the Trinity, the triune Godhead.
The Word was God means just that! Jesus IS God! Hebrews 1:3, Colossians 1:15-17, 19, Colossians 2:9
In verses 4-17, the Word, the life, the light came and spoke, lived and shined into the world, into the darkness and into our lives the grace and the truth of God.
Jesus is the WAY. He is the TRUTH. He is the Life and NO man Cometh UNTO the Father but by HIM, JESUS!!! WOW…I always love hearing this scripture…just makes me so excited to be a part of Gods family!
We can read further about this in john 14:6, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, Colossians 1:18-20
Because God is the son, Jesus, the Word of God was obedient in that way to God the Father Philippians 2:9-11
ONLY JESUS, the LIVING WORD of GOD CAN SAVE!!!!!
As with what is said in Philippians 2:9-11 EVERY Single knee shall bow on Heaven and on Earth!!!
Jesus is the ONLY name given to save, use his name in public and everywhere being faithful to proclaim the gospel!!!
Well that sermon left me on fire!!!
