Mom’s Famous Frito Salad Recipe
This is truly one of my favorite party dishes. This is such an easy and affordable salad recipe that is so simple to make. It’s also a salad that can be prepared ahead of time, just leave out the Frito chips until right before you’re ready to serve. The Fritos add a perfect crunch in every single bite.
The Perfect Party Dish Frito Salad Recipe
We have made this dish for Christmas, game day parties, tailgating, New Years Eve parties, birthdays, get-togethers and the list goes on. There is no wrong time to make this easy salad.
Because this salad has some veggies, I think it makes it easier to justify loads of corn chips, mayonnaise, and a handful of cheese, right? You can always substitute plain yogurt for a “healthier” version to the recipe, but trust me, this salad is astounding in flavor. Rich and creamy textures with a mix of crunchy vegetables and chips can be found in every bite.
Can I Make The Frito Salad Ahead of Time
Yes! Just mix all the ingredients EXCEPT the chips and store in the fridge. Right before you are ready to serve, add in the Fritos, toss and serve! If you add your chips in and wait, they will become soggy. The flavors are still good, but the texture not so much.
I recommend eating the salad within a few hours of being made. The chips will become soggy over time.

What Are The Best Fritos For Frito Salad
Okay, so here is where it gets interesting. I love all types of Fritos in this salad. We have tried the original, scoops, chili cheese flavored, and even jalapeno. Every single variety has been a huge win. I think at the end of the day, the original is nice, but have fun playing with flavors to see which one fits your taste buds.

Frito Corn Salad with Sour Cream
I reach for sour cream and mayonnaise for the base of this salad. Mayonnaise gives it a perfect creamy texture and the sour cream offers a hint of tang to the base that really adds a whole element of flavor. The combination of these two ingredients are a great base for dips and salads altogether.
Like I mentioned earlier, you can replace the mayo for plain greek yogurt if you want to cut out some calories or add some protein, but it will slightly change the flavor. Although I personally use mayo and sour cream, I am sure it will taste just fine by swapping. I know some people love it with Greek yogurt.

1/2 cup red bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
12 ounce bag frozen sweet corn, thawed
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1) In a large bowl, combine the chopped red and green bell peppers, corn, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise.

2) Slightly crush the Fritos into smaller pieces. Add the Fritos to the salad and toss well. Serve immediately.
