Studying God's Word with Veritas

My family and I have been studying God’s word with VeritasBible.com from Veritas Press. I want to share my review with you, my beloved readers, about this amazing resource.

This is an online Bible Study that we’ve been using for the past 2+ months. I’ve had my eye on this program for quite some time, but we were in the middle of another Bible Study. When this review presented itself, we were finishing up our current study and I immediately jumped at the opportunity to review this incredible study!

This program is a pretty cool and exciting way for ~~you~~ your kiddos to study the Bible. 🙂 Your children will learn more about God’s word by playing fun, exciting games and watching videos as they travel through the Bible!

Three separate courses comprise this study that are geared towards kids ages 2nd grade through 6th grade:

Genesis to Joshua
Judges to Kings
The Gospels

Each section covers 32 major Biblical events and includes memory tools for names, dates, and places! You will also find art sections, music and geography.

Each lesson is broken down into 18 parts. New information is shared through the videos which portrays events that occurred in Bible times. As an added bonus, maps are incorporated that provide more information by the a simple click of a mouse. The videos and the maps helped my kids in understanding new information and also helped them visualize where these occurrences took place. We really enjoyed both the videos and maps! While moving through the lessons, your kids are graded on how well they performed. The grades, if you will, are 1, 2 or 3 stars. The stars encouraged my kids to pay closer attention to the study. Your children can repeat the lessons at anytime. However, unless you have at least one star, you cannot skip ahead.

Not to worry because more studies are in the works! The next studies that will be presented are Chronicles to Malachi, Job and Acts to Revelation.

How we used this Bible Study:

I set up an account for each of my younger two boys. The program suggests to begin with the Genesis to Joshua program. Of course, it does make sense to start at the beginning, right? Although my younger two are very well-versed in the Bible, it was a great way for them to be presented with God’s Word in a new, fun and exciting way.

This program is great way to encourage kids to do more independent study. If you have a child who doesn’t do so well with that independence, or has some special struggles, you may have to sit with them. My kids did okay by themselves.

The videos were high quality and, quite frankly, excellent. I am picky about cheesy cheap videos. I am also picky about “tv time.” I don’t plop my kids down in front of a television or computer screen and say “have at it” and walk away. I enjoyed the fact that this wasn’t just a video series but included actual Bible study! The study encourages your kids to have access to their own Bible so they can look things up. Needless to say, I was thorough impressed.

My thoughts:

I liked the concept. My kids thought it was fun and enjoyable. However, we usually do Bible time together and it is very hard for me to move past the actual Bible in hand to a computer based Bible study. I can see how helpful it is and I have no issues with it. Besides, this is the technological world we live in. However, I’m a huge Charlotte Mason method in education my kiddos. I’m at a quandary with this program. It was great for my kids and they learned so much, but I have a hard time letting go of my “bible in hand, reviewing maps in hand, turning the pages” Bible Study. For our family, we will continue using this as a supplemental program or a “just for fun” Bible Study activity. If I was trying to find a Bible Study to get my kids started with understanding God’s Word, this would definitely be the program I would begin with. This might be the program for your family if you’re looking for a new and exciting way to present God’s Word. This also might be a great supplemental program to present to you kiddos as well.
