- 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
- ½ teaspoon of Almond Extract, optional
How to make the best sugar cookie recipe
Preheat the oven to 350F and line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Keep aside.
In another bowl, combine the sugar and the softened butter and beat for 3 to 4 minutes till it is pale, fluffy, and creamy.
Add the egg and vanilla and almond extract and beat for another minute.
Add the sifted flour mixture and use a spatula to incorporate.
Divide the cookie dough into 2 or 3 parts and shape it into disks.
Refrigerate for at least an hour up to overnight. Or you can freeze the dough for up to 3 months.
Remove from the fridge. If the dough is too firm, let it hang on the counter for 30 minutes or till it is soft enough to roll.
Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the dough into an even ¼ inch thickness.
Dust your cookie cutters with flour and cut out as many cookies as you can. Re-roll the dough and cut out more shapes. Repeat this process until you run out of dough.
Place the cut-out shape on the parchment-lined cookie sheet and let it chill for 30 minutes. This will ensure the cookies do not spread in the oven and ultimately stick together.
Bake the chilled cookies for 12 minutes at 350F.
Let the cookies cool completely before icing.
Repeat the same process with the remaining dough.
