Delicious Honey Battered Corndogs
Just look at those perfectly browned corndogs. So much better than anything you can buy at the store, right? I love this simple recipe for corndogs because it’s fast and easy to do and the kids literally love it. I’ve been a fan of making my own corndogs for years and I love the extra sweetness that the honey adds.
We used to get corndogs at the local fair each year, but at anywhere between $5 to $9 a pop, that adds up! I decided that it was time to take matters into my own hands and that’s how this yummy corndog recipe was born.
If I had any desire to make and sell them, I’ll toot my own horn and say that they’d be a hit! But then again – we all know that fried foods are always good when eaten in moderation!

How to make deep-fried corndogs
Mix together the cornmeal, sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
Add in the buttermilk, honey, and egg. Mix well.
Cover the bowl and put the batter in the fridge. It needs to chill for about 15 minutes or so. Then pull out of the fridge and stir the ingredients again.
Grab the hotdogs and pat them dry with a paper towel to get rid of the moisture. Use the sticks and put them halfway into the hotdogs.
Add about 4 inches of oil to a pot and heat to 350 degrees.
Take your cornbread mixture and add it to a tall mason jar or glass. Grab the stick and dog and dip them into the batter until fully coated. Place the coated hot dogs down carefully into the pot of hot oil.
Cook for about 3 minutes or until you notice that it’s golden-brown. Take out of the oil and put it on a paper towel to soak up the oil.
Repeat with the rest of the dogs.
Add your favorite dip or eat them just like they are. Enjoy!
What dips or toppings go best with corndogs?
This is all about what you like. Some people like ketchup, some people like mustard, and other people don’t want anything except that honey flavor on a stick.
Tips for Making Honey Batter Corndogs
Even though you might not be a fan of deep-frying the corndogs, this recipe really is better that way. I haven’t tried this recipe for air frying or baking yet, but I may be doing that soon enough. If I do, I’ll make sure to come back and update you with those types of cooking methods.
How to reheat corndogs
Leftover corndogs are really good and simple to reheat. Even though I’ve not yet made them using an air fryer or my oven, I do use the air fryer and oven for reheating them when they’re already fried!
To reheat in the air fryer, you just need to turn to 350 degrees and cook for 3 minutes. For the oven, you’ll just want to lay them on a baking sheet at 350 degrees and reheat them until hot.
How do you make buttermilk?
If you don’t have any buttermilk on hand, no stress. You can make your own. All you need to do is combine 1 tbsp of vinegar OR lemon juice for each cup of milk. Stir it together and voila! You’ve created your own buttermilk right at home.
What if I don’t like my corndogs sweet?
Just leave out the honey. You don’t have to add it in if you don’t want to, it’s totally fine. Or you can make a double batch and have a taste test to see which one you really do like the best.
Have so much fun making this easy dinner recipe. Eating off a stick is just such a fun thing to do! Plus – they’re fast and easy to make and taste so good!
