I want to take a moment to talk about IXL Learning in this review. Is it for you? Will your kids like it? Will it fit your homeschool? This in-depth discovery and review will help you decide if IXL is a good fit for your family. So far my boys are excelling with IXL Learning and I find it to be an essential tool for homeschooling parents.

Excelling With IXL From IXL Learning

This online program is a great way to make learning fun for your child and help them excel in learning. Let’s break down IXL so you can see for yourself why you need this resource in your homeschool curriculum today!

What is Covered At IXL

You’ll find that IXL covers a variety of subjects! Everything from math and science (grade 2-8), language arts and social studies (grade 2-8), and even an intro to Spanish.

How easy is it to use? Simply click the subject you want to work on, followed by the grade skill level, and then dive into studies. Can’t get much easier than that!

What if You Are Unsure Of Your Child’s Skill Level

The Diagnostic Area allows your child to answer a handful of questions to determine their skill level. If they get an answer wrong, don’t fret. Every answer, whether right or wrong, conforms the program to your child’s skill level. These answers determine what information will be covered so your child can learn and grow.

I also found it easy to switch around with IXL Learning from level to level. One day during our regular lessons, a subject we were working on was just too easy for one of my sons. So we just went back out and moved up. Easy, Peasy!

My Thoughts on IXL for Homeschooling & How did we use it?

IXL is totally worth the investment! If you are wanting to help your child learn new skills, this program is for you. Even if you don’t homeschool, IXL offers exceptional and easy to follow concepts that children of all ages can easily grasp. The activities help them master each skill.

I found the Diagnostic Area incredibly helpful. I was able to see the skill level of each of my children and felt a sense of ease in knowing I was giving them the correct lessons. The diagnostic ensured I wouldn’t skip over areas that my children needed extra help or needed to learn.

As the parent and/or educator, you get to see what questions your child answered right or wrong, which helped me to know areas to work in. Each child more than likely has a different learning style and learn at varying pace. Therefore, having a tool that shows how my teaching is paying off is worth its weight in gold.

An area we have worked on is the 4th grade Language Arts in Sort Sensory Details. This study helped my children understand the difference between sensories by moving the words into proper boxes. If they got a question wrong, they were shown the correct answer. This helped strengthen their learning.

Each activity also offers a timer to track their progress during each exercise. You can see if they’re struggling with a question and maybe need more clarification or extra work. I love how easy the site is to navigate. My boys are huge fans.

Main Areas of IXL We Focused On

We focused for the most part on 4th grade and 6th grade- unless there was a subject we needed to jump around in. We have really enjoyed what we have got to work through so far and can’t wait to dive in further. I wanted to list a few things for each grade below that we have gotten to experience-

4th Grade | We covered subjects ranging from fossils and rock layers, fractions and decimals, government, synonyms and antonyms and more.

6th Grade | We worked on variable expressions, Greek and Latin roots, ancient history, ratios and percentages, and so much more.

How IXL Works With Student If They Answer Wrong

As you can see above, the answer was shown as incorrect for 6th grade social studies. The correct answer is given with an explanation. Your child is shown the right answer rather than a red x showing their answer is wrong. This feature was invaluable to my children’s learning.

Would I Recommend IXL To Parents

Absolutely! The more my kids play around and complete subjects and skills, I am really enjoying watching their progress. If you are on the fence of IXL, I highly recommend giving it a try. We were blessed to be given a full year of IXL from IXL Learning and we plan to continue to use this program throughout that full year.

Not only do my kids love it, I love it as well. So that to me is always a win, win.
