The Glass Castle from Shiloh Run Press

It’s difficult to believe, but it has been quite some time since I last reviewed a book! What better way to get back into reviewing books than to start again with The Glass Castle by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins from Shilo Run Press!

My oldest is on the cusp of his teenage years, so finding good reading material for him is important. When I was looking for a book to review, I had him in mind. He is like his momma and loves to read. Unfortunately, as he gets older, it’s more difficult to find good, wholesome, clean material for him to read. Not only that, his interests change and that adds even more difficulty in finding a variety of books that meet our guidelines as parents and followers of Christ. He read the Narnia series a few years ago and I told him if he liked that series, then he would love The Glass Castle!

A little about the book:
As previously mentioned, this book is written by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins. It is a hardback book that has about 256 pages broken down into 41 chapters. Recommended age is 10-14. In my opinion, this book is perfect for children in late elementary through middle school.

Who would have thought that a simple walk through the woods could turn so dangerous for thirteen year old Avery and Henry, her three-year old brother. Avery and Henry are kidnapped by a mysterious old lady, but soon after being kidnapped, Avery and Henry are separated from each other. She was taken to a castle where 13-year-old orphans in the kingdom were being held. She soon discovers why she was kidnapped – the King is dying and needs an heir to the throne! There is so much mystery and details for Avery to uncover about the secrets of the King’s first wife and the Forbidden city!

My sons thoughts:

He couldn’t put this book down until the last page was read! Did I mention he read all 256 pages in one day? He is a voracious reader. He kept mentioning the suspense was killing him and couldn’t stop reading. Now he wants to contact the authors to expedite the next book in the series because the end “left him hanging.” 🙂

My thoughts:

The Glass Castle is very well written and super exciting! My favorite books are those that draw me in, the ones that make me feel I am the character feeling the emotions I am reading. The Glass Castle doesn’t disappoint! The entire book was a page turner for me, too. I am a fast reader (my son gets it honestly) and I finished the read in an evening. Christian themes can be found throughout the chapters. I’m actually considering taking my son’s advice and contacting the authors for the next book in this series. 🙂 Now we just have to wait for the sequel, The Ruby Moon, in October!

My younger two have decided they want to read it as well. So, this summer we will be reading this wonderful book aloud.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! Check it out! I think you, I mean your child, will love it as much as we did! 🙂
