Modest Monday: Modesty and Tweens Part 1

My sincere apologies for the absence in Modest Monday posts.  As I posted HERE, I wanted to be more available for my family.  My goal is to slowly ease back into the weekly Modest Monday by posting at least twice per month.

 

I truly enjoy sharing Modest Monday, but, unfortunately, we are often so busy since Clay’s return from overseas and his retirement from the military that taking pictures of myself is either difficult or sometimes an after thought.  Having said that, I hope this post was worth the wait!  This is Part One of Modesty and Tweens!!!

A few weeks ago, my niece came to stay with us.  She is the same age as my oldest son.  In fact, they are two months apart in age to the day!  Anyway, I have been embarking on a new adventure with tweens, clothing and girls! 🙂  I have found such excitement and joy in shopping with her and seeing her taste in clothing.

Although I have been a skirts MOSTLY kind of girl, I am not a skirts ONLY.  Keep in mind that I did not raise my niece.  I didn’t have the opportunity to mentor her on modesty in both the heart and the apparel.  When you see the pictures, don’t be stunned to see a skirts only post. 🙂

I am very proud of my sister-in-law in raising such a well-mannered, sweet, and modest girl.  I am also very proud of my niece for not straying away from her mother’s teachings.  On July 4th, my niece was saved and baptized.  You can read more about this awesome decision HERE.  Even though she wasn’t raised in a Christian home, my sister-in-law has done a wonderful job raising her and teaching her to know what is morally right and wrong.

When we set out to go shopping one day, we pulled into the mall and everywhere around us were what I call “booty shorts.”  My niece said, “Why do girls and women want to dress like that?  It shows everything!”  That is a good question, isn’t it?  I think part of the answer is these girls and women haven’t been taught about modesty.

I think another part of the answer is they enjoy the attention when dressing immodest.  Unfortunately, it is the wrong type of attention.  Another day we were doing a devotion together with my husband and he asked her something about morality and she had to give an example.  She said that dressing immodest is immoral.  I am really proud of her!
