Modest Mondays…..Our Convictions on Dress

2013-09-22 09.42.19

I thought it might be nice this week to share what exactly our convictions are on dress.  If you all followed me on my Path to Modesty Part 1 HerePart 2 Here, and Part 3 Here, you know that we have come to this point after much prayer and guidance from the Lord. 🙂 Along my path to get here, I finally asked my husband what he thought I should wear.  For those who have known me my whole life, you will know that was a huge deal to ask that! God was finally getting through! HAHA! My husband always liked it when I dressed up for church. So while he told me he wanted me to be comfortable, he also told me he really liked me in skirts.  SKIRTS!!! WHAT!?!  I liked skirts…but didn’t know about wearing them all the time. So we dug into the word and prayed. We also read some great books that helped guide us in this path.   In OH many of the ladies at our church wore only skirts, many wore a head covering…we needed spend time in prayer and seek Gods guidance in all of this.

So here it is….our convictions!

~I wear mostly skirts and dresses.  Through this path I have grown to really love them and welcome them!

~I do own pants that I do wear sometimes.  For example if I am going caving, I do not want to crawl through a cave in a skirt alone. Wearing a tunic with jeans can really make them more modest!

~I don’t wear shorts except to work out on the elliptical in my own garage or at home.  I prefer culottes or capris which can be made more modest.  I would wear something like this hiking or church camp with the kids.

~I do not wear skirts above the knee and usually mine are all longer. I have a few that hit below the knee but that is the shortest I go.  Same for dresses.

~I don’t like low-cut tops. If something seems to show too much skin I layer it with a modest layering tee from halftees or a tank top.

~I don’t do sleeveless unless it is layering.

~I don’t wear a lot of jewelry or make up.

~I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a dress to church or a skirt, I always have even growing up.  I believe that this is very important.  If we would dress up for a ball, or to meet the President, to a wedding, or to go out on a date WHY wouldn’t we take the time to dress up for the most high?  It is an honor to wear my Sunday best for church.

Here are some simple rules for modesty that I adhere to and most I was taught growing up if you need to question if something is appropriate or not…..

Some simple rules for Modest Apparel

1. Does it accent feminine portions of my body too much ?

2. When I bend over can you see “cleavage”.

4. When I raise my hands does it show my belly

5. When people look at me can they tell I am a woman? Is it feminine?

6. Could it possible cause a brother to stumble?

7. Does it show my thigh (upper part of the leg)(either in form-leggins or skin)? And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach. showing nakedness is from the knees up.

8. Do you look like the rest of the world around you. Will people notice you are different (not obnoxious or ridiculous)

9. If you thought there was a “pervert” in the room, would you dress like that or dress your daughter like that?

10. Can you stand before God with a clear conscience?

So that is our clothing convictions! I take great strides to make sure that I am bringing honor in glory to the Lord at all times when I am out in public. You never know when you will be given the chance to witness!

So now what did I wear?  I gave you a sneak peek of one outfit at the top of the page…I will start though with one I wore last night out to dinner with my family….
