How to make Halloween Cookies
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.
Mix the flour, cake mix, oil, and eggs in a large bowl.
Stir in 1/2 cup of the M&Ms. (You should be able to find the Halloween colored ones, but if not, you can use any type of M&Ms.)
Grab a cookie scoop and make cookie dough balls. Place them on a cookie sheet at least two inches apart. As the cookies bake, they will expand. Use the extra M&Ms and push them on top of the cookie dough.
Pop in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes.
How many cookies does this easy cookie recipe bake?
I normally get anywhere between 20-24 cookies, depending on the size of the cookies I decided to create.
Can you freeze cookie dough for later?
You can. I can remember the first time freezing cookie dough as a young girl with my mom. If you want to freeze the cookie dough, just put it in an airtight bag and store it in the freezer for later.
Then when you’re ready to bake, just pop it out and let it thaw before resuming the rest of the directions.
Can you freeze cookies once baked?
You bet. I’m a big fan of freezing cookies as it helps with portion control. I’ll even freeze them in little bags so that I don’t have to unthaw them all at once.
Variations & Alternatives
The great thing about making a cake mix cookie recipe is that you can easily change up the flavor, the texture, and even the presentation. Varying cake mixes can achieve all three. Instead of a chocolate flavor, you can try a strawberry or vanilla flavor.
I do love chocolate cookies, but I also enjoy vanilla cookies and even strawberry cookies on occasion.
And if you find yourself running low on M&Ms, then chocolate chips can easily be swapped out and used in a pinch.
Keep in mind that using a cake mix recipe just takes out a few steps to making it homemade, but the baked result will actually taste just like you made them from scratch.
One other variation that you can use is the type of oil. The recipe does call for vegetable oil but there is always room for extra virgin olive oil or even coconut oil to be added instead. I say use whatever type of oil that you have in your cabinet at home so you can save yourself a trip to the store!
Why are my cookies dry?
This really shouldn’t be a problem with this recipe, but if it is you might have not added in enough oil. Just be certain to take your time when measuring out the ingredients so that you have moist and chewy cookies that everyone will love.
